Default Installing rain gutter on 28 coupe

I need to install the rain gutters on my 28 special coupe. They are original rain gutters and in good condition. I sandblasted them and painted them. There are 2 pieces for each side. I believe the piece with the holes in it is nailed on, but not to where it bends the metal. Once the piece with the holes in it are nailed on, how is the outer piece installed? Is the outer piece laid over the top of the installed lower piece and then snapped over the bottom edge of the inner piece or the other way around? It seems it might be difficult to "snap" the outer piece over the inner piece without using a block of wood and a hammer or something similar.

We used a rubber hammer very gently.

Rusty, hook the outer gutter into place on the bottom over the lower edge of the inner tack strip, then with either your hands or a rubber mallet, gently knock them into place to where the upper edge locks into place in the tack strip.

Thanks Gary for the info. I thought it would have been the other way around. I would have had problems.

Also, the key is not to apply too much paint otherwise it will make the tight fit even tighter and harder to get them on.

Years ago when I installed the gutters and trim strips on my 29 coupe, they got dented some, so I filled the dents with bondo, sanded and painted them to perfection. Many years and trophies later they still look great.
