Model A Headlights

Disregard this post. These lights are not for a Model A.


My original headlights have seen better days.

How do I go about rehabilitating them?

Were these headlights originally chrome plated?

I couldn't tell you if those were originally chrome plated, but I can tell you they are NOT ORIGINAL Model A head lights. They are after market replacement seal beam headlights.

1928-E29 were acorn or bullet-shape cadmium-plated steel, with fluted lenses. 1929-31 were hemispherical stainless with "Twolite" logo, "bullhorn" lenses. Both lenses 8" diameter. Earlier reflector sockets were centered, single-bulb. Twolite reflectors were offset 1/16" for their different bulb geometry and available as two-bulb (no cowl lamps) or single-bulb (with cowl lamps). The AA trucks were all painted steel, I believe.

The vendors carry accurate replacements, at least for the Twolight type.

I thought that with the exception of commercial headlights, all 1928 and 1929 headlights were nickel plated. The stainless steel hemispherical lights came in 1930. In what literature was it stated that headlights were cadmium plated?

Few things look worse on Model A's than the wrong headlights.

The above statement is incorrect!


In part per the judging standards, "Head Lamps - The 1928-29 head lamps were acorn shaped and bright nickel plated. From October through December 1929, the head lamps may be chrome plated. With the introduction of the 1930 models, the head lamp shells and rims were changed to a hemispheric shape made of stainless steal."


Further from the beginning "through February 1929 the head lamps had fluted lenses. Beginning in March 1929, the tops of the lamp shells were stamped with Ford script and "TWOLITE HEADLAMP."

Sorry. I didn't have my books with me on the road. The 1929 acorns were indeed nickel-plated. 1930-31 stainless hemis, not 29. (That was just a brain fart. )
