Re: door lock philosophy
The old movies and my grandfather have verified what the others are saying about the locks and curb side entry and exit. I wondered why also.

I don't parallel park down town, even in a modern car.

Re: door lock philosophy
Pooch, that is the US version, which suits us here in Oz, but the original RHD Tudors had the LH door key lock and a RH door inner sliding lock. Both of my Tudors are this way, one is original delivery in Oz, and the other is from Argentina.

Re: door lock philosophy
I don't see how one could exit one of these little cars with a console. I had a 94 Taurus once that the driver side door wouldn't open. I played heck trying to get across that console and shifter.

Re: door lock philosophy
Hasn't anyone here seen the movie "A Bronx Tale"? The idea was obviously to make sure a prospective girlfriend passed the "door test". Any girl who did not pass the door test was to be dumped immediately. The guy is to, as a gentleman should, unlock the passenger door from the outside and open that door to let his date into the car. If she is a worthwhile girl, she would then reach across to unlock the drivers door. Lol probably not true but I've used that test on every girl I've dated...and it's accurate!
