New model in the Ford dealer showroom
I was at Colonial Ford in Plymouth MA for some work on the Ranger when I walked into the showroom and among the new Mustangs and other new Ford iron was the car in the photos. The I don't think the salespeople knew what it was. Had a tudor in the '60s. Enjoy.

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
Looks to be a very nice car, but it's an odd color combination.

That color combo would look right on a taxi cab. Pretty straight-looking old sedan. DD |

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
If that is a show car, I would remove the third brake light, looks like heck.

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
Did standards have one or two tail lights in '40?

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
'40 Standards had one taillight unless the state of residence dictated otherwise. DD …... |

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
I like the old fords painted one color but that is semantics. looks nice. All ghost white would be nice too. Still a nice ford.
They all leak a little, if they don't your just a lair. Besides it's just a great way to keep rust out on the under chassis. There is a reason for a factory cotter pin in the oil pan.... . Last edited by Tinker; 02-22-2020 at 12:04 AM. |

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
My first car I ever owned was a 1940 deluxe coupe($400.00). It had a beautiful blue iridescent original paint job kinda like on yours. It was an antique even in High School. Tuck-N-Roll interior from meheekouw. I was hooked!

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
The '40 in the showroom was somebody's interpretation of what they wanted their car to look like. Paint, fog lights, 2 taillights, whitewalls & other tweaks like wood grained window garnishes were all part of it. It has a very nice original, unrestored standard steering wheel, with just a slight amount of wear on it. Would look good in my "40 coupe.

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
What in the world is that rigging under the rear of the "one tail light" car in post #16?

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
It's a "Helper" spring. It was a coil spring that hooked around the ends of the existing transverse spring. The far end of the eye bolts shown would go through the hooks on the end of the device and the nutts holding them could be tightened to add more or less tension to increase the load-carrying capacity of the rear suspension.
IT's probably part of the "Trailer Towing Package" installed by the owner. We used to come across them from time to time when parting out old Fords. |

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
I totally agree with you, Ken. I wish mine had similar character (minus the visor) rather than all of it's "shiny-ness"! Ken Alabama's coupe is just about "right", too! DD |

Re: New model in the Ford dealer showroom
So I went with son for him to pick up a new 2019 F350. Local dealer has very large banners hanging from the ceiling of the all new 1956 truck models. I instantly told
salesman I want two dark green F350s for cash. His look was I just landed! I said false advertising good day .......... |
