Default Original Sparton Horn data tag...

I have an original Sparton Horn Data tag.

But there is just one problem...all that is on the tag is the date of "61928".

Now...I am thinking outside the box here. I know A and L has reproduction data tags for the Sparton horn. I am not sure just how or where they are made...By A and L?

If I can ever get in touch with them I will find out.

HOWEVER I have a thought...It might cost me more than it is worth but here goes...I wonder if they can take this original tag and restamp it thus leaving the original date stamping on the tag?

I will continue this idea when I get in touch with them...they were not there today.

I have the exact same situation. Sparton horn with correct date for car, but graphics long gone. If they could restore that tag, it would be terrific.

I am in the process of restoring a 55 Chevy and the place I sent the generator and starter to in Texas stamped new tags exactly like the originals. For those cars they sell new tags without the date code so somebody has to do that themselves. This place does it in house. http://www.classicgenerator.com/about.html
I am sure they could do the work if you had a new tag, but are the new tags exactly like the originals other than the fact they don't have date codes?

Just got an email from A and L...they are unable to put new graphics on an original plate.

Guess I will have to order a reproduction.

Maybe Jim Brand (the pinstripe guy) can help you as he restores body tags

If they were painted, the life would be limited under weathering. If they were etched, they would last better but it would have to be done in the original fashion to be correct. A lot of folks get gigged by judges due to the Sparton Horns.

This is a followup to Chris's comment.
The photo on the left is an original Sparton tag and on the right is a repro. It would appear that originally the name Sparton was printed in bright red letters on original tags, but the years have erased them, leaving the small print which is more durable. I'm only assuming this, because I have never done a close comparison of repro vs. original horn tags. Does anyone else out there have an original Sparton tag with the red Sparton graphics still intact? That would clear up this mystery. Thanks.

yes...they have one.

Al said that they could not do it because what they print up is on one big sheet...Oh well.
