There is no need to drill holes in an A head to match the block. I would also advise against use of the silicone type gasket in your pic. The Best brand graphite is what i use

I plan on filling the holes on mine. Less chance of a gasket leak in that area.

Do NOT use the silicon head gasket. Do a search on the A site for info. Go with a BEST gasket or copper. Bert's in Denver can hook you up. FWIW

Tod will likely have some new B head castings soon if he doesn't already.

The Best gaskets were likely not around when Snyder made the recommendation for the silicon.

I'm not a 4 banger guy but in my limited experience with them, I agree as I have personally had two of those "Modern" silicone gaskets fail. Best Gasket Graphtite in my opinion is the best out there

I had problems with the silicone gasket on a newly rebuilt model A engine. I switched to Best Graphtite gasket and no more leaking.

You also need to check the head for warping, even new iron heads.

Hey John,
You are not the only one to have had problems with that silly cone gasket...by far !

When that gasket first came out, I had to try one as it seemed like a good idea.
Don't waste your money and time...in my opinion/experience.

For non-believers, well they just have to put their finger in the 'wound' !
