Americarna on Velocity channel
If you get a chance to catch it or DVR it, do it. First two episodes are on Woodies and '40s used by moon shiners.
Ray Evernham is the host and he talks with several different well known names. Junior Johnson, Don Prudome and many more. Check it out. T |

Re: Americarna on Velocity channel
Thank God a decent car show without a bunch of childish antics, phony deadlines, and made-up drama!
Show looks good so far! That guy that does the woodies, I hope he has an apprentice or someone to pass all that knowledge to!

Re: Americarna on Velocity channel
Americarna sure is a great show. Both segments on the 40 Ford and Woodies were interesting.
The wood craftsman was Ron Heiden. That was my 46 Washington Blue Woodie in his shop while filming. My wife and I were surprised when we saw it on TV. Ron is the best and a great guy to work with. He does not have any apprentices working with him. He does it all. |

Re: Americarna on Velocity channel
Beautiful woody you have. The wood looks like Koa (from the islands). What type is it?

Re: Americarna on Velocity channel
Thanks....The wood is Birch and original from 1946. I have heard that in 1946 to 1948 15% of the Woodies are Birch. The majority of the Fords were Maple. Birch has more color or tone variation in the wood. Ron Heiden is a true craftsman and it shows.
My avatar is a 1948 Woodie I sold a few years ago. Last edited by GaryTx; 01-30-2014 at 03:58 PM. |

But, Ray doesn't keep combing his hair or worrying about where his next beer is coming from.

Re: Americarna on Velocity channel
The Merc woodie that was featured and belongs to Gary Clark, had some detailed engine covers that were painted by my son. Carrying the surf / tiki theme, Mike hand painted all the details on the engine covers.
Also painted some tikis and bamboo details on Heiden's car. Merc engine compartment.jpg Gary Clark Merc engine cover.jpg
