Re: Model A street rod
That's very interesting that some say there's no problem with a rope seal. I just rebuilt an r11 Borg Warner out of a 50 shoebox with 8ba in it. The car has a very recent restoration. I'm neither a flathead nor an older ford expert but the inspectin plate on the bell housing has a drain made into it as well as a seal that goes across with a cup directly under the rear main to drain the leaking rear main away from the clutch. And it was needed as it was pouring out. Hmmmm.

Re: Model A street rod
That sounds like the 8RT truck type sump & half bell set up. It has a dust seal for the clutch housing as well as a rope seal like all the regular 8BA engine blocks.
The R11 is usually in the Lincolns starting in 1949 and is mated with the T85 type 3-speed transmission. Most smaller Fords have the 259 type transmission with the R10 overdrive. They are a bit lighter duty than the T85. The Mercury cars of 1949 thru early 51 have their own R10 type transmission that will fit either 8CM half bells or the 59 series post war blocks. Re: Model A street rod
I believe you are correct it had 3 planetaries so that's an r10? But it still had the stuff for the leaky rear main.
