Stop light switch and LEDs
I am in the process of putting 12 volt LED stop lights on my Town Sedan.
I found a neat fully sealed 6 to 12 volt step up transformer and I figured that all I needed to do was splice into the stop light circuit. Before I mounted anything I made sure that the plan would work. LEDs are voltage direction sensitive so I made sure that the positive leg was connected to the ground. It worked great during the test so I mounted and wired everything. The standard stop light worked but the LEDs didn’t. I checked the wiring - everything was OK. Finally I put a volt meter on the stop light switch input and it showed a strong 6 volts. Then I checked the other side of the switch and only got 3 volts. I then ran a jumper to bypass the switch and the LEDs worked. Looks like I need a new switch! |
