Default Why is it hard to find 30w oil

Hi Ford Barn Members:

Does anyone out there knows why is it getting extremely hard to find 30W oil anywhere? I live near Columbus, GA, and cant find it at auto parts stores, Walmart or Tractor Supply.

Amazon has it. Let your fingers do the walking!

The theory is that multi viscosity oil is a superior product and single weight oil is unnecessary. I use 15-40 in my A.

I have a worn out modern car with 200,000 miles on it. 40 or 50 weight with a bottle of STP keeps the oil in around town but on the road I still need to add a quart every 400 miles. These days finding 40 or 50 at an auto parts store is almost impossible.

I was at my local O'Reilly recently and the manager said the state of CA will not let them sell nondetergent oil. They can't order it special for anybody. Not that I would ever use it, just saying.

Try some independent motor supply stores. I use 30 wt ND in my T and A and in the overdrive of my '58 Austin Healey. I have three stores here where I live in Maine where I can get it but all are independents, not big box or chain stores.

Non detergent oil is about the worst thing to run in any engine. Use it in your compressor. Do the engine a favor and take advantage of good lubricants.

I recently found Pennzoil 30 on the shelf at Blain's Fleet & Farm.

I assumed it was available there because of the 'Farm' nature of the place.

I prefer straight 30 weight because it's the same starting and finishing. Plus it's 'A' 'seasoned' engine.

Multi-weights are superior IF you are using a thermostat in your Model A.

I got 30W off the shelf at my Fred Meyers (Krogers in some parts of the country). Look at Walmart. I have found while the brand selection may not be as good, you can sometimes find oil for less $ at places like what I suggested, rather then part stores.
