Default RTS 4 sp trans info needed

Which Ford mid 80's RTS 4sp transmission is used in the Model A conversion? 2wd - long tail shaft or 4wd - short tail shaft?

Do a search on F150 4-spd and you'll find all the information you need.

I have an 85 f-150 trans in my 29 tudor, it looks like they made a new part where the tail shaft bolts on the trans. It is a piece of aluminum about 1" thick and the u-joint cover (back half) bolts to the aluminum part. The driveshaft and torque tube have been shortened about 1.5" .
It is a great set-up. I did the change so my wife could drive the car. I have a Mitchell O/D in my 28 ccpu , but I drive the truck. I would say go for it to anyone wanting to make the change.

'84 - '87 will work from 2wd or 4wd. I have done one of each. I think the codes to look for are; AD, AE, AJ, BJ, BP, BU, BV, BZ, or CS but check ratio before purchaseing. Turn input shaft 10 revolutions and look for 12.6 rev.s on the output shaft. Ron W

The 4wd has the "boss" for the speedometer drive gear is a different place. 2wd is easier conversion when cutting the new splines on the shortened tailshaft.

Jack 34pu, Ken Parker is a good guy to talk to if you would like to buy a kit or if you have questions. He helped me a lot! AL in NY also knows a lot about them. Ken, good to hear from you. When I cut the splines on the short output shaft, I put the hole between the splines and it almost disappears. Doesn't hurt anything. I just sent you an e-mail with a picture. Ron W

One of the better threads on this subject here, it also has some good links embedded in it.
