Default Aluminum block.

I'm thinking of casting an aluminum block to see how one of those castings would look also. What would be the guess as to people wanting aluminum?

I have molds and cores, so why not try one?

I'd increase the center main web thickness for more strength if you haven't already thought about that.

I can file the cores for the first one to get the thickness even thicker.

It doesn't matter, if you know what you're doing. Every engine block I've made uses the same formula (garnered from 38+ years of experience) to make either iron or aluminum. The Model A block is a brick compared to many castings I have engineered.

I have a guy who will take the first couple, so I'm not going to talk about it anymore. I have an iron one machining right now, first, though. But, paying work comes first, always.

I would be interested in a block with 5 mains, full pressure oiling, and larger insert bearings.

Hey Tod,
Yup , aluminum sounds pretty good to me also, but with FIVE mains for crank and FIVE bearings for cam. If you find it easier to do than to get after the iron casting same configuration, then I'll flip my deposits over to that style (aluminum) block !
-Can you say if YOU will install the iron sleeves ?
-does cam bearing surfaces in alum , need bronze bushed ?
-Can you say what might be cost difference between alum/cast iron blocks ?
Lastly, you haven't given up on the 5x5 B style iron block, eh ?

I have not given up or stopped on anything. All my suppliers seem busier than normal and are dragging things out waaaay further than expected and beyond what they told me. So, I keep plugging away as best I can.

I will install cylinder sleeves. I think cost will be close to the same, but I won't know for sure until I cast one.
