Default Chassis ID 39

Where is the chassis number on a 1939 sedan? Is it accessible from under the car, or is it on the top of the frame and only accessible with the body removed. Also, what will it tell me? I would be interested in original paint color, manufacture date, stuff like that.
Thanks.

The serial number is on top of the left frame rail (and a couple of other hidden places). It is visible without removing the body. See http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm Go to the bottom of the page for serial number locations. All the number will tell you is which engine was installed from the factory and when the engine/transmission passed final inspection. Thee serial number also appears on a pad on the top of the transmission case. Since it was common to replace transmissions this number is generally not used.
