I have my steering gear back together and put the column back on steering wheel tightened it up good put the horn rod bushing in the steering shaft and then put the horn rod in the bushing fits tight on the horn rod, should it or should it be free or should it be tight in the steering shaft when i turn the wheel it moves the light rod this is without the light switch attached just trying to eliminate issues beforre i put the column back into the car.

Is this a repo horn rod??? I had to take some sandpaper to the repo horn rod where it rides in the bushing. Yes it should spin free otherwise everytime you turn the wheel your lights will switch to different modes. After sanding and getting it not to bind i use some grease

make sure there is no burrs inside the shaft. the reproduction horn rods are bigger in diameter than the originals so you have to sand them down until they fit. the rod should turn freely, but not to loose or it could rattle.
