Heavy duty Y block exhaust valve cap
Hi guys!
My Y block is a heavy duty edition (truck motor) and the exhaust valves are larger than the intakes and are sodium filled. Stupidly, I lost one of these valve lash caps while replacing the valve seals. Any leads on replacement? The valve diameter is 0.434” (as seen online and the parts guy at Summit Racing told me) and I’m sure other Ford engines used these caps. Anyone have a link for a part number or know what other engines used these caps? Not having much luck finding aftermarket or eBay when searching for Y block. Thanks in advance. Re: Heavy duty Y block exhaust valve cap
Maybe find a "Y" block rebuilder near where you live. They may have a few spare parts or can tell you where to find the part. Are you sure about that .434 stem Diameter? Seems awfully large to me but then I've never been inside a "Y" block.

These engines also had steel cranks, and shorter rods for some reason. Therefore they used special pistons with the pin lower in the piston. |

Re: Heavy duty Y block exhaust valve cap
I never saw a failure on any of those heavy duty heads except an occasional seat coming loose

Re: Heavy duty Y block exhaust valve cap
The problem with any of Ford's sodium filled valves, they would occasionally break. I have seen several on the FT series and 1 on a Y block

The sodium after a period will become caustic and attack the inner valve stem. The cap protects the valve stem (which is hollow and weak) from being beat to death by the rocker arm. Same method used on the FE 427 MR.
