8ba motor with a y-block ebu carb
Does an ebu carb with the spark control valve work any better or worse on a 8ba motor than the correct 8ba carb. A friend of mine just bought a 50 ford coupe and the previous owner was really "selling" him on the y-block carb upgrade. Seems to run rich to me

I think the EBUs (1954, I believe) had 1" venturis, but also, if I'm not mistaken, 54 jets.

Re: 8ba motor with a y-block ebu carb
I ran an ECC carb (1-1/16" IIRC) with spark control valve and couldn't tell any difference as far as vac advance. Too many variables for me to draw any conclusions about a performance improvement, but the Y-block models had significantly more flow and some internal improvements that seemed worth it. I was running #53 jets. Unless you open up the manifold bores I wouldn't expect a big difference.

lone,
Always remember....lean is mean. Unless that '50 has lots of cu inches and breathes and exhales deep a 94 with 51 jets will get her done. A higher number power valve might help a bit. This is only my opinion. Charlie ny |

Re: 8ba motor with a y-block ebu carb
When changing carburetors on an engine that was not designed for it. You have to consider what affect it will have on ignition and AF ratio. As stated above if you don't increase the intake to the same bore as the carb, you're wasting your time and money. Done right this will improve the preformance of the engine. Check out JWL's book for some results of increased carberation.
