Default Rear brake question

Does anyone know if the rear brake backing plates, drums, and brakes from a '70 Torino 8" rear end housing will fit on a '57 Ford station wagon rear end housing?

I don't know the answer to your question but I would assume the answer is "no". If I remember correctly the '57 has a 9" rear end. I guess if you had the parts readily available you could try a fit up. I'm thinking you would have to get parts for a 9" rear to get a good fit up. BTW - same rear used in '57 full size cars and Thunderbirds. You might find parts compatible if you broaden your search parameters.

I have no idea what the previous posts were about but what I'm trying to do is I have a '57 Wagon housing but no brake drums. Cheapist I've found is on Ebay for about $ 200 for a set. I have a complete 8" housing with brake driums and backing plates and brakes. Trying to save a few bucks and also get wider brakes. When I actually get to working on that part of the project I will just have to take the 8" apart and see how it fits. Wouldn't be the first time I made somthing fit that wasn't made to fit something.

I'm thinking they will fit. I know that the backing plates on a '65 mustang 8" are a bolt on a '57 housing

I will find out when I finally get to that part of the project. Did I see somewhere that the mustang 8" axels will fit in the '57 9" housing are is my memory failing me again?

The 57 rears and the 65-66 Mustang rears were the same length so you might be in luck. As far as spline, diameter etc, I don't know if they are the same. There were two different 9 inch rears in 57, the big bearing and the small bearing. Bigs were used in wagons and sedan deliveries, the small in the rest of the cars if I got it right.. I think the TBirds had the big bearing.
