Default 523 HP Y-Block!

Check out the Feb 2011 issue of Popular Hot Rodding's engine shoot out. 375 CI Y-block, 523 HP @6500 rpm, 477 ft/lbs @ 4,900 rpm. Uses Mummert alum. heads; when did these come out? Anyone have info or website for these?

Also, in that PHR article, copy down the name of the guy who ram rodded the test. Ted Eaton is a guru who will help any dedicated Y blocker with just a phone call. If you are interested in these heads, you need to subscribe to the Y Block Magazine also. A wealth of exciting information.

Mummert's website

www.ford-y-block.com

You can see the heads and other y-block performance goodies, and besides that he is a super nice guy. Like Ted Eaton, he will help any y-blocker with advice or recommendations.

If you have a look on the Y blocks forever website there is a section there on them that has a lot of information, makes a good read. It has been a long road but they got there in the end with sheer determination.

The last Y I helped build certainly fell short of making that kind of HP, but did manage 383HP @ 6000rpm. I am no guru but cam/head/valve train design are certainly the key to making a Y block run. Here are some of the parts that went on the Y block I worked on.
Let's see, $2150 for the heads and $650 for the roller rockers..$2800..that's coming pretty close to what I paid for the Roush/Yates heads on my 408 stroker which flows 371 on the intake side and 294 on the exhaust.
Making over 500HP in any natrually aspirated motor takes cubic $$$$$ and a lot of thought, but in a Y block that is outstanding!

That looks like the makings of a nice build. I am interested in where you got your timing set, is that rollmaster?

thanks, Dan

Yes, it was a Rollermaster. They make some fantastic parts in Australia.
It was a CS-4060 and even looked better in person than the photograph and the quality was far superior to anything made in the USofA!
