Default Float adj. On a tillotson model x

I have read several threads on the FB as well as other web sites about how to adjust the float on a Model X Tillotson. I haven't found any articles that have usable instructions to make the float adjustment. Several places along with the instructions that came with rebuild kit say set the float at 1 inch from the machined surface to the lower edge of the bead around the middle on the float. The Tillotson float doesn't have a bead like the Zenith's. I could sure use help with how to set the float without a lot of trail and error.
Thanks

The way i adjusted float was 1 inch from the flange of the top to the bottom of the float.

From the way you have pictured, top of the float shoud be one inch from the top half mating surface.
Hint: Make sure the float is level (not twisted), use two needle nose pliers, one to hold close to the float and one to adjust, don't want chance damage to the solder.
Even a small leak will be bad

The Tillotson repair manual goes into good detail on rebuilding this carburetor and even has a diagram of a float gauge that can be fabricated.

Here's a Tillotson article that might be handy for you, 1930.68B. I downloaded it when I thought I'd bought one at a swap meet. Turns out I'd bought a Marvel (supposedly working OK, but I have read that you can't get parts for them). D'Oh! Live and learn!
