1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor Unrestored Project
City:
Springville
State:
New York
Price:
$5500
Offered is a very solid and original Tudor Sedan that I bought a few years ago. At the time I needed parts but now I just don’t have the heart to part it out. The engine is a 59A. Everything else is original from the weathered paint to the ignition and glove box keys hanging from the column drop. It still has all the stuff that’s getting more expensive and harder to find day by day: the transmission, pedals, column, dash, and banjo wheel. It comes with an open 1973 Wisconsin Title. It rolls and steers easily. The tires are very old but hold air for loading/unloading.
The body and floors have surface rust but are very solid. Looking at it from the drip rails to the fender bottoms, the only rust through I’ve found is in the tool tray and tail pan. A nos panel for below the trunk lid is included. The tool tray is not. It’s possible the fenders to running boards connection could show minor rot when disassembled. The doors latch nicely with good gaps. The body is straight except for a hammered out right rear fender and a dent in the trunk lid. I think the grill could be early aftermarket. It’s missing the center, and has no holes in the others for trim strips. Has a very nice hood that has a broken latch trim strip. Some of the body and hood trim is missing along with both tail lights and the front bumper. The original cloth upholstery is either missing or in poor condition. It looks like the seat frames and springs were unbolted from the floor and then the bolts run back in. The radiator looks good and the engine looks complete. I filled the crankcase, intake, and cylinders to overflow when I brought it home. It was stuck then but now turns thru full revolutions with the starter. Yesterday I found some rust thru in the front fenders. Pictures, along with others, are attached.

I checked the engine today and found that it now turns thru full revolutions. I also noticed that it is a 59AB and not original to the car.

Re: 1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor Unrestored Project
Yesterday I pulled the plugs, added some more mystery oil to the cylinders and turned it over with a battery long enough to think it just might possibly run pretty good with some more cleaning and checking.
Over the last week I also put on 2 better roller tires with new tubes. All 4 now hold air well for storage and yard rolling. Last edited by longgone; 10-13-2021 at 12:39 PM. |

The frame does have surface rust and pitting. While laying underneath I did not noticed any obvious rust thru. If viewed on a lift or after sandblasting some rust thru areas may be more evident.
Attached are a few of the typical rust prone areas. If you'd like to see more just ask. I took about 40 underside pictures today. Last edited by longgone; 10-19-2021 at 07:37 PM. Reason: pictures |

Re: 1939 Ford Deluxe Tudor Unrestored Project
I pulled the distributor yesterday for cleaning and resetting.
One step closer to seeing how well the engine may run. Last edited by longgone; 10-30-2021 at 12:48 PM. |
