Have you considered starting and ending your trip in Canada? It's a simple procedure to buy, license and insure a car in B.C., drive across the border and travel west to east. It's a spectacular drive down the Oregon coast to California. The only problem might be selling the car when you're finished in eastern Canada. PM me if you want more info at this end.

I’m sure you’ve thought of this, but make sure you buy the car in a state with no sales tax. California is NOT one, however Oregon has no sales tax. So you could easily begin on the West Coast in Oregon and still travel down through California then head east. Plus then you end up on the east coast where it may be easier to sell your new toy. Sounds like a fun adventure. I would suggest an early fall start (great chance for perfect weather) then possibly end up in the New England states for their fantastic fall colors.

Another thing to think about, ending your journey at or near a major auction or show and sell the car on the spot. Hershey would work for an early fall destination. This way your worries are a bit less in getting rid of the vehicle. Maybe start a facebook page to follow your trip to advertise the car a bit.
