Try Richard Lacy (626) 338-2282. If he doesn't have them in stock he will know what fits and where to get them.

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
14493 and 14494, NAPA... Under $20 each, Oct 2001... 1 1/8" size bore... I took them apart, they looked great... Got a few miles on them- they work great...

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
Hey 19Fordy, any part numbers on any of the other parts? Like the bottom adjusters, the shoes, the links between the cylinders and shoes, hold-down springs/links, etc.? If I walked into my local store they'd just tell me their books don't go back to '48 Lincolns.

The shoes are a Bendix #29. 50's era Buicks used them as well.

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
No, the rest of the parts didn't have any part numbers. I broke one of the brake return springs and called up MT Products for the part numbers. I have a gut feeling that the part numbers you need are for more modern 1950's thru 70's cars. The phone number for MT is here: http://www.mtcarproducts.com/productsgrid.html Dave Wilton from MT Products phone number is 530-872-0122. There are several folks on HAMB who follow Fordbarn and sell MT Products Lincoln Brakes so perhaps they will chime in. There are also some Fordbarners who sell 1939 Lincoln drum brake kits so hopefully they will help out also. I did some searching on HAMB and found this helpful info.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...lincoln+brakes In Dec. 2003 Flat-Top Bob (HAMB) posted these helpful numbers for 39-48 Lincoln Brakes. I can't find the original post, but some other HAMBERS said some of these numbers weren't "good". I think the brake shoes are 1971-76 Chevy caprice Station wagon 12x2in. I know the brake return springs number is "good" as I bought some. 1. Shoes 286-29 2.Wheel cyls 1 1/8 bore Wagner 4543 and 4544 3.Hold down kit NAPA 80401 4.Brake return springs NAPA 80301 5.Brake adjuster Wagner h1500 f462775 6.Spring over adjuster Raybestos h403 Good brake hose for use on Fords Raybestos bh36722 This company http://oldtimeparts.com/ also sells complete 52 part brake and hardware kits for 1939-64 Lincolns on Ebay from time to time for $24. Give them a call toll free at 1-888-399-7278. I bet they can help. If you definitely find out all the numbers, please post them for all to see. Last edited by 19Fordy; 02-29-2012 at 01:52 PM. |

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
Can someone post a picture of the brake lines you are using to fit these Lincoln front wheel cylinders. The wheel cylinders I am using is Napa #14493 and 14494. I found a banjo that will fit in the thread which is 11x1.25. Now I need to find which line will fit properly.
Thanks Frenchy |

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
11x 1.25?? You sure?
Sounds like 7/16 x 20 tpi = that's a standard 7/16ths unf thread, same as early ford front wheel cylinders. Note, the rears are different, but the fronts match that thread. Mart. |

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
When I installed my MT Products wheel cylinders I used the stock 40 Ford brake lines and hoses.

Thanks they are 11x1.25 for the rear of the Lincoln which I will install in the front because I have the rear backing plates from a Lincoln and using the 65 Buick finned drums. I need to locate the rubber brake lines and may have to use a banjo. Frenchy |

Thanks my son and I we look at the thread pitch and it is showing 7/16 x20 as you mentioned.I went to Parker house in Phoenix and the parts counter guy told me it was 11x1.25 which is ridiculous size.So I will go back and check for a 7/16 x 20 to a 3 an fitting line to be made. Thanks for the help Frenchy |

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
Can these be used as replacements for stock '41 Ford wheel cylinders and provide a little stronger braking? Any downside to doing this?

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
If you can't find a specific supplier, seals are sold by the outer diameter, inner diameter, and width. Any bearing supply place can supply seals based in the dimensions.
You should be able to measure the three dimensions you need. Mart. |

Re: Lincoln wheel cylinders ( front )
The stock front wheel cylinders are 1 1/8" bore all the way through for the Lincoln Bendix brakes. The Ford Lockheed brake cylinders have a step in them as only the front shoe stops the car. Changing wheel cylinders would not have any positive effect on the stopping ability of either type brake systems.
Using the same size wheel cylinder front and back would have a tendency to lock up the front brakes first on severe stopping. The different size cylinders front and back act as an equalizer to apply even pressure to the front and back |
