Default Interesting Comments about you Ride

Heard an interesting one lately?

Guy's wife next door saw my PicUp drive by and asked her husband:
"What WAS That??"

In the late-70s, my wife and I went to the Dairy Queen in our 30 CCPU. As we were sitting in the truck eating our cones, a family drove up with their preschool daughter. The little girl shouted excitedly, "Look Mom, it's the Waltons!"

Just a few weeks ago, we started a rally from a roadhouse so everybody could fuel up before we set off. As I was getting back into my A, someone pulled up alongside and asked "What year is it?"
I gave them what I thought was a sensible answer - "2019!"

Took Ol' Clyde (29 CCPU) out for a limbering up and new fuel today: kid at the gas station, probably 15/16 years old, just oohed and awwed over Clyde; after looking inside and asking a zillion questions, asked the zinger: how do you turn on the AC?? I pointed to the open windshield, to which he responded: wow, how very cool! Ford should bring this concept back!

"Is that one of them cars you have to hand crank?"

I proceeded to hand the crank out the window to him!!

He jumps back 2 steps holding both hands up--- NNOOO

I had the car prepared to start, was just going to step in the switch, so I got out, all the while talking, fitted the crank while talking, --- started perfectly, easy flip, 1 compression,I pulled the crank out all the while explaining the process, walking back to the door he asked about me starting the car, the look was priceless when it told him it was already running!! ---- there's a range of heat soak time that I don't willingly give hand cranking demonstrations though.

I am in my 60s and a guy around my age asked how old my car was.
Replying its a 1928 model and therefor 91 years old.
Then he asked “did you buy it new?”
Cheers

I get asked a lot "how much is it worth." My response is usually, "why do you ask? Are you going to make an offer?"

Pulling out of supermarket parking with my 1929 Tudor when a women asked me how old it was and WHY I was driving it. She added: The state has to prohibit these cars being in the streets. And she was really nervous and kind of angry.

I smiled her and answered: in the meantime I will drive and enjoy it. Honked my horn and left.

I went to see my mother that was living in a nursing home at the time and when I drove my roadster pickup in the women working there asked if that was my new pickup I was driving. I said yes and my mother said I want to go see it. I pushed her out side to see it and she said "I wouldn't have that old thing"

Many years ago (1960s) I was fueling my Coupe at an old time gas station. All of sudden I heard a yell from the garage, and an old-timer came running out at my Model "A." He opened the hood and kissed the engine! He explained to my astonishment that he worked on Ford's Model "A" Assembly Line installing running board splash aprons.

I'm always surprised at the number of "What year do you think that is?" "1940s?" conversations I overhear around my 29 Tudor.

Was Driving the '30 Fordor a month ago, about dark, & decided to get some gas. Stopped at an OLD gas station/convenience store in a really seedy part of town cause they sell non-ethanol gas. A totally-pimped out 80's Bagger Monte Carlo pulled up alongside, a 20 something year old behind the wheel, his stereo Thumping Hard!! He lowered his MC, asked what year she was. He couldn't hear me over his music, he killed his car, got out and walked over.

His baggy pants, Dew rag, and gold chains were a stark contrast to the Bare Bones '30 Sedan. He crawled ALL over the car; inside, outside, under the hood, got behind the wheel, asked a 1000 questions. Kept saying he's never seen anything like it. He was completely respectful, knew a lot about cars. I was polite as well and answered everything I could. We drew a small crowd of onlookers.

After about 20 minutes I got back behind the wheel and told him we were gonna make the drag and catch a drive-in movie...he said "do they still have those?" I laughed and said no.

How’s about the old timer who backs up to the front fender grabs the welt and exclaims,” we usta lift em up like this when we had to change a tire” while he struggles to lift it up off the ground.

It was a beautiful night tonight and we heard about a truck show which featured a bunch of lifted gigantic trucks. Thought it would be fun to bring our 28 pickup.

One little kid about 9-10 was very interested in our truck and asked a bunch of questions. But the best was when he pinched his fingers over my spare tire to measure the width and then walked over with his fingers open the size of my tire and held it over a monster truck tire parked next to me to compare size of our tires. My wife got a kick out of watching the little guy.

I guess the reaction I have found that most tickled me was a fellow at a car show that said: "A Truck with an open top, how cool is that." The guy in his 20's was desperate to have the truck, but Toni is not for sale, yet.

My choice of color was influenced by how 28/29 fenders wrap around the tires, like on a model T. Gives people the impression the truck is even older than it is. Plus there are too many green ones.

I am 58 and I have a black 1930 Tudor with whitewalls....It looks kind of gangster...

I use mine as a daily driver, so I get lots of questions.....
1. How old were you when that car was made?? (I was born in 1960)
2. What do those handles on the inside of the door do? (Window cranks)
3. What kind of radio did those come with?
4. Where do you get fuel for something like this?
5. How fast does it go?
6. Manual transmission....wow, you know how to drive a stick shift?
7. Did you build that from a kit?
8. That probably rides smoother than new cars.
9. Can you still get parts for that?
10. Can you blow the horn?
11. Can I take a picture?
12. How often do you show it. (Never...bought it to drive)
13. Is that a Cadillac ??
14. When people see it at my office they ask.."How did it get here?" (I drove it)
15. How would you get it home after dark?? (See those nice headlights)
16. Is this like the Bonnie and Clyde car?
17. Where did you get it?
18. Did you restore it yourself?
19. Can I see the interior and/or engine.
20. How much did it cost or how much is it worth....

Like I said...I never show it, but I drive it a lot so lots of people come up to me asking lots of questions about the car....I know I will think of 20 more as soon as I post this.

I've got that more than once too. I explain that was for the Model T and in America only - we had the choice of about half a dozen colours. Sometimes the look on their face is disbelief, sometimes iyt looks as though their world has just crumbled!

A fellow in a brand new top of the line Chevy pickup truck pulled up to the pump next to me. As I was filling my Tudor up he asked me what year car it is. I told him that it is a 1930 model A Tudor. He proceeded to tell me that my Tudor would probably outlast his new truck. I just told him that it already has.

Basically what I have gotten is:
1. How much is it worth?
2. Nice Model T!
3. It has a planetary transmission, right?
4. What kind of gas does it use?
5. How do you get by with one tail light?

I have to resurrect this..
Went to the gas station the other day in the 30 Fordor. The clerk said that's a nice car, what year is it? I said it's a 30 model. Did you buy it new he asked?
He made a 55 year old feel ancient.

Never a car show that question doesn’t get asked. My father in law used to say, ya traded in a 1919 T on it.

Took the Vicky to the gas station this Spring.
Fellow behind me walks up and looks the car over.
As I am putting gas in he says....
Why are you putting gas in the radiator?
Because they run better!

Several sources sell new tires.
On a trip from Florida to Indiana, it averaged between 15 & 19 mpg.
Whatever a willing buyer will pay. But it's not for sale.
I’d leave it home before I’d put it on a trailer.
High compression head, counterbalanced crank, Mitchell overdrive, cast iron brake drums.
Restored in the late 1980s, upholstery done in 1990, painted again in 2013.
We bought it originally from friends who drove it for 20 years.
Reproduction parts dealers, swap meets & the internet.
55-60 mph all day long.
No, your grandfather’s was a Dodge and it was green.

Back in the mid '50s I was driving a '27 Model T coupe, fellow pulled up beside me and asked "what kind if car is that?", I replied: "it's a Model T", he said: "I know it's a Model T, what make is it?", "Ford" I answered, "Thanks" he said and drove off.

I have the original tail lights and brake lights on my tudor, I was driving down PAC Highway, which is a four-lane road, at a traffic lite, this guy in an old ratty El Camino pulls up alongside me, and says “when you hit your brakes your back up lights come on”. I just thanked him and drove on.

As my wife and I were parking our ‘29 Tudor in town yesterday, a 30ish looking guy walks up and asks: “Is that a Model T or a Model F?” No, It’s a Model A. Then he asked to see the engine, after I opened the hood, he stares at it for several seconds then asked: “Is that a V8?” Have a good day !

The "Waltons" and "Did you buy it new?" are classics. I haven't had anything except "That's a nice car"!

As I stopped for a light a couple days ago, a girl about 17 asked, "How old is your car?" I said, "It was built in 1929. I’ll let you do the math." She smiled, said "Wow", and waved as I drove off. Just another way to engage younger people.

My friend is 32; a few years ago somebody asked him if he was the original owner of his 31 Roadster Pickup. They were dead serious too.

You've gotta be friendly if you own an A' the whole world likes to talk to you when you drive them.

-Yeah, my Grandpa had a 1934 Model A
-What's is it worth? (Guess range from 50-100K)
-Did you buy it new?
-What is it?
-Had one foreign guy guess the year of the car as early 70's
-While sitting in gas station or store parking lot..."Does it run?"
-Is that legal to drive on the street?
-How fast does it go?
...Just to name a few
