Default Removing crank pulley?

I've removed the nut OK, but cannot budge the double crank pulley on my 59A. I did a search, but I'm not finding the help I need. Anyone got any tips?

Harbour Freight sells bearing seperators. They are heavy steel plates with half circle cut outs that bolt together. Put one behind a pully and use a two jaw puller. I use mine to pull steering wheels also.

No Harbor Freight store close to Napier. At least i don't remember seeing one.

Don't remember seeing any old Fords either, but did see quite a few Bedfords.

Puller WILL bend pulley. As someone above said, use a punch from under and behind... I try to find a long, dull chisel and place it as close to where the sleeve meets the pulley fange... Take a hammer to it and it will move. May have to turn the crank to drive other side when it's almost off...

A puller will bend the pulley if it is attached to the pulley rim. The bearing seperater grabs the pulley at it's base at the hub. It will do no damage.

Un-sure if the 59a differs from the 8ba?But I couldn' remove the one on my 8ba.I applied a small amount of heat from a torch and it came right off, again un-sure if this will for you. Good Luck

In the continuing saga of the pulley.... I put heat on it and it still wouldn't budge. How hot is too hot? My next step is to heat it until about glowing? I am considering drilling and tapping two holes in the front sheve and making a puller similar to a steering wheel puller. That might work in conjunction with heat.
I tried tapping from behind with a drift, but I'm leery of hitting it too hard.... if it breaks I'm really in the poo.
I only need to take it off because I want to remove the crank, and with the pulleys on it wont clear the bulge in the cam cover.

I had to heat mine pretty hot, especially on the backside if I remember correctly.I was removing mine from a seized donor engine so I wasn't concerned about causing damage to anything else

Ted is right; you know how much energy you expended getting those valves out? well HIT the bloody thing; tommy bar or whatever with like amount of force! Apply this force as close to the boss as possible. The pulley is only a sliding fit on the crank snout.

i'll tell you a little story about a hard pulley to get off. I've had many hard ones to pull in my 60yr's of stripping flatheads. But I had one this summer that took the cake. I had the crank out on a bench. I heated it cherry red, no way would it move. I even drill a couple of hole tryed a bolt on puller. I finally cut the pulleys off, then with a torch I sliced the part that was still on the crank and with a big chisel spread it enough to knock it off. The culpret, someone had been on the snout of the crank with a big pipe wrench and really buggered the crank and really drove the pulley on BIG hammer. That's what fun about flatheads. No matter how many years you work on them every once in awhile you find something differant. Walt

Cheers Brian,
I've been scared to hit it too hard, thinking I might bust it. Looks like the old adage applies.... if in doubt, go get a bigger hammer!
Nothing to do with this problem, but I picked up a set of original NOS Ford rings all sealed up in a waxy box, and each ring is sealed in a waxy envelope.

The rings are a nostalgia garage art item no good for an engine today but cool to see how they were packaged and sold years ago.

This is how the original KRW and VLC crank pulley puller looks like.

I finally got the pulley to move about 1/8" , just enough to enable me to lift the crank out, but still cant remove it completely. As I only wanted to remove it to be able to lift the crank out, I'll leave it be.
