Seems like a boling brothers issue if you can't use standard kingpins. You might have to notch the top of the pin to clear (shouldn't effect the pin much). But what do I know.

On the Lacy V8 Garage kit it uses the 37-40 style kingpin with a greased thrust washer and shims between the bottom of the axle and the bottom spindle boss. The kingpin has the bottom cut off so it doesn't stick down past the bottom of the spindle.

Hi,

I have a 32 with 32 spindles, Boiling Brother backing plates and 1940 brake drums. I wrote to "Early V8 Garage" a few years ago before buying and got this reply:

"Attached are more photos of parts we offer to retain the original front spindles, and the modification required to install front Bendix brakes. The rear Bendix brakes fit with no modifications. The SKK-3111 ($80) replaces the original kingpins and bearings and relocates the bearing/load to the bottom of the axle. This is necessary when using Bendix brakes, as the original "sockets" are in the way of the front hose connection to the wheel cylinder. The DLX-2000 ($49.95) adapts Ford/Lockheed brakes and includes bearing spacers to locate the hub/bearings and to provide a surface for the front hub seal to ride on. Bendix brakes are available to fit the 32 spindles, so the large rings are not required, only the small spacers ($20 pr.) The 32 spindle requires the modification shown to fit the Bendix brakes...

You can retain the original 32 spindles. We prefer to do so as it retains the LH arm to the drag link and therefore does not mess up the geometry. The adapters for later spindles are all made incorrectly, with the result that the original drag link becomes too long, which causes the vehicle to be turning left when the steering is on-center (no play) and accordingly causes the steering to be off-center (lots of play) when driving straight. ..."

I suggest you give them to call to discuss your application to be on the safe side. My installation instructions supplied with my purchased kit also have the bearing on the bottom of the spindle and felt washer on top.

The Kingpin setup in the picture is what I have been describing. You still have to remove a minimal amount of material on the top of the spindle for the MT brakes to fit. Mr Lacy's explanation is very accurate. I've got several thousand miles on my truck and the MT fronts combined with the MT rears stop very well. I did upgrade the steering and installed one of Neal Jennings 37 Hudson steering boxes.

I used the Wilson backing plates with 32 spindles and king pins. I sawed the cups off but left the area where the bearing fits.

I put a dropped axle under the car and used 40 spindles with Lincoln backing plates. I sold the Wilson small pattern backing plates.
The 32 king pin cup was cut off with a band saw and rounded some on a bench grinder. It was in use for many years. The pins I replaced were like that from probably the 40's.
The area that pushes on the bearing was not reduced. I did not weld or heat it at all.

Yes, The 40 plates and the Wilson Lincoln’s both cleared. I have put 56 F100 plates on 46 spindles and they did not clear.
