Default question; Valve,guide and clip?

When the guide and valve sit in I take it that it is just spring pressure against the horse shoe clip that holds it 'firm' in place? I was wondering if the horse shoe clip fit is 'loose' would there be any chance of the guide moving, say at high revs?
I have quite a few old clips and they do vary in thickness... Just a thought

The valve spring does hold tension against the horse shoe clip. The only difference I think the thickness of the clip would make is to vary the installed height of the spring a little. A thin clip might let the guide rise up in the bore a little more.

I guess the only way for the guide to move would be a loose bore, weak spring or sticky valve...?

If your intention is to run high revs it would be best to knurl the outside of the guide to make them tight going into the guide hole. Next use loctite to hold the guide in place when installing them. With the guides modified and the locktite doing the retention the horse show now is only used to set the guide at its install height it no longer is being relied upon to hold the guide in place. Doing it this way I find no guide movement when turning the Flathead well over 6 grand for extended periods.
