Default 39 Fan Belt

I can't find the thread but know there was one recently inquiring as to the belt required on a 39 Ford engine. I happened to notice the numbers showing on mine as I was rotating the engine today so took a quick picture of it. All stock engine. Belt dates to the early 1970s so I can't say if the Gates number is still good but I know the belt has worked well on the car.

Yes, thanks for posting a cross reference for the Gates in my picture. I thought it might be of some future help to others shopping for a fan belt. I missed the gen pulley in the picture but it is the same small pulley that I have seen on all Ford car generators of that vintage.

It should cross reference to a standard B52 belt (but please check first).

Not that it apparently matters to you, but that 'same small pulley" is incorrect on your 39.

Drake makes a very nice repop belt for your car. As I recall, $25. Ford script and it fits properly in the pulleys.

No, pulley size does not matter to me but I am curious just what is the correct size pulley for an original 39 Ford generator?

Here's a photo of a proper 39 generator and of course, the respective pulley.
You'll quickly note the nut that holds the pulley on vs. the later (1940-1948) that were threaded on to the armature shaft - a lock ring utilized to hold it in place.

Update: I re-checked the gen pulley on my 39 and its a 3 and a quarter inch o.d. Further edit: interesting to see the correct pulley. This 39 was bought used by my dad, already third hand in 1952. In those days you installed what worked and you could afford. I can see the mounting holes in this gen for the newer style fan base. Unfortunately my internet has collapsed to dial up levels today and I can't upload a photo.

That's the later pulley introduced late in the 1940 model year.
The early pulley was 3 11/16" while the later was 3 3/16". That's where the belts rides. OD doesn't come in to play on a pulley - at least not in this scenario.
