Default 47 ford tudor

Question about rear side window operation. As I crank up the window it close normally but if I keep cranking up the window it slides back about an inch creating an opening along the front edge. Both rear windows operate same.
Is this the way it was designed originally or is something broken?

Yes, That's exactly how those windows are suppose to operate.

The rear ash trays are just below that small opening. Not a coincidence.
