Default Brainerd Meet Update

Hi Everyone.

Epic thunderstorm in Brainerd tonight.

Power lines all over road and pkg lots.

Several modern vehicles with tree damage, also some V8's wounded.

No injuries that I've heard of.

Power out @ venue, doesn't look like a 1 day fix.

Reporting from phone. Charging from modern vehicle.

11pm now.

I'm sure more to follow.

I've been watching the news/weather reports in the Branerd area tonight,
with the rain, high winds, lightning, hail, etc. I sure hope everyone
had advance warning of it comming and found safe shelter.
I wish the best for everyone up there.

We have quite a mess here at Cragun's Hotel. Many many trees are down all around the hotel property. Many damaged vehicles, both antique and modern. All the main power lines and poles bringing power in to this resort are down on the ground.
We will get some pictures of this up on here tomorrow

Sorry to hear this; I hope everyone is OK. I'm only 20 miles away, so I stayed home yesterday after I saw the weather reports. I was going to go down this morning, but after reading this, I stayed home again. Keep us updated because I'd at least like to make one day. I'm sure this will put a damper on the proceedings, though.

I just posted this on the other thread about this :

"I'm only 20 miles north of there, and I had no Idea of the damage until I watched the news right now. It may be a little late, but I have a shop with tools etc. up here; I also have a pickup and a Featherlight open trailer. If anyone needs anything, they can contact me here, or at (952) 807-5709. I'm just glad no one got hurt.

The EFV-8 Club meet at Brainerd was officially cancelled this morning. The folks at Cragun's Hotel Resort wanted everyone to leave this am. We had many damaged vehicles, car trailers, towing vehicles, old Fords, boats on trailers and boats tied to the docks. Many of their individual cabins had tree damage. 100's of trees down everywhere. Some called this a Micro Burst, or Inline High Winds, but I think we had a Tornado based on the trees down in all directions and tops of trees twisted off.

I imagine that the cancellation of a V8 meet is unprecedented? Hopefully everything is fixable and Hagerty or whoever is sharpening their pencils. Were any of the cars safe in trailers or did the trailers get beat up also. It seems as though extreme weather is getting more and more common.Last year before Gettysburg I had asked a question on Fordbarn about my biggest fear hail damage, what preparation besides getting car in a trailer can a guy do? At least it sounds like no one was hurt. Wonder if Jon Anderson was showing his latest 35 restoration?

Hi Everyone, 37 Coupe, frankly, all of the above. For example my car was safe in the trailer, but the trailer took a very slight beating, a couple of holes in the roof. I didn't see any crushed trailers, but there was one with a HUGE log, longer than the trailer itself, on it's top!

Several trailers and cars had to be chain-sawed out of the branches which were literally everywhere.

Two of my 'road buddies' had their tow vehicles damaged, not just a little bit. Windows/windshields, dented hood, dented roof. Some of those damages could quite possibly total the vehicles according to the insurance companies.

Strangely, there was no hail, just a lot of wind, and a lot of rain.

Mr. Anderson was not seen my me.

Glad everyone is ok. Cars are replaceable people are not. It's a shame it had to be cancelled. Sounds like it would have been a fun meet to attend.

Mike, didn't see your post until late last night. The good news is...no one was injured in this mess, although it could have been much worse if the hotel had taken a direct hit. Thank God that didn't happen.

GeraldT, Jon Anderson was definitely not at this meet with his latest restoration.
