Default AA Truck rear axle .

My son and I have just bought an early 1929 AA truck . The story that goes with it is that it was off a farm in southern California . Long ago it had been fitted with the bevel gear rear axle . It has wire wheels which are bolted to the bevel axle hub . It looks like the change was done many years ago so the wire wheels are not correctly supported at the hub . I have checked the wheels but no damaged lug nut holes or cracks in the wheel hub . I was thinking of making up a spacer to fill the approx 1/4" gap at the hub has anyone done this ??? I could run BUDD wheels on the back but I think it would look odd . Sadly the bevel is 6.6 to 1 ratio so it will be real slow for sure . My English AA has the 5.14 to 1 and will cruise at 40 MPH no problem but just wondered if anyone has the 6.6 and what does it cruise at ???

John in rare raining morning Suffolk County England .

Than you Jack as i thought 30 MPH . I do have a spare 5.14 axle in the "stores" but I dont think I will change it out . I have belonged to AA truck club for years but never thought to check that speed table out .

If it looks to be a truck axle, it may be a Timken Detroit unit since they have a torque tube drive on the early ones. Does this look like a truck axle and does it have a torque tube?
