Default Upholstery cracking

the seat back upholstery is drying out and cracking in several places. The cracks have not split open yet so I'm hoping somebody has a remedy? I think its Le Baron/B vinyl not leather. Is there something I can treat it with to soften it up and stop the drying out of the material? Thanks!

Armour all works but need to be re applied often. vynal repair kits work surprising well. i repaired a boat seat that had a long rip in it on the front of the lower seat in a stress zone and the repair is still holding to my amazement because i still kneel on the drivers seat and it has been 5 years. Up close you see the repair but it blends well if youre not looking for it.

Mike,

You're right. After you use it a couple of times if you don't reapply Armourall often, vinyl will become hard and brittle and crack. Once you use it you're committed.

I was warned years ago to never use the stuff. Was told it makes the vinyl worse instead of better, so I never tried it.

Back in the "PADDED DASH ERA", them Dudes would crack BAD! Companies made VERY THIN covers to glue in over them!!!
Armour-All was promoted as a "FIX" for it! Folks sprayed it on everything!!! It was MURDER when you got it on the rubber pedal pads!!! I "heard" someone sprayed his Vinyl seats, cut a short corner, door flew open & he SLID out on the BURNING HOT pavement!!! Some even used it to "WAX" their cars!!!---Then, along came S.T.P.----We had Words to clarify that "Acronym" but I fergot whut they were????

303 vinyl protector does wonders for vinyl that is aging. Use it on my boat seats. Doesn't get as slippery as Armorall. Armorall is bad stuff, alcohol in it.

I got my shop air compressor from a dealer because of Amour-all.The compressors were in a clean room next to the body shop. They decided to use the room for new car prep and used car recon and detailing. All of a sudden all paint work in the body shop turned into a disaster.Between the ceiling fans ,a lot of compressor use by the body shop, and a run of vinyl roof cleanups, the compressors sucked up a lot of the stuff. They didn't skimp on curing the problem, new compressors, all new black iron lines, all new hoses, anything remotely connected to the problem got replaced.I took the compressor apart and washed everything with some kind of chemical that removes silicone. It may have been MEK,I can't remember.I sloshed 5 gallons around in the 80 gallon tank for a while.I won't have any silicone sprays in my garage now.

Thanks for the excellent tip on the 303!
Bought Aerospace 303 protectant and applied to naugahyde roadster seat this morning and WOW what a difference! Upon application the material softened up and left a deep rich luster and softness to the upholstery! Thank you Seaslugs and to everyone who took time to respond with tips, I cut and paste all of them into my "A" files.
