Thinking about selling the '34 Phaeton

There are many factors that influence collector car prices, including banter on Forums. Auction results and classifieds may be best used as starting points for new offerings, but ultimately, each sale is unique in how it is offered, and luck of the draw in who sees and acts on the offerings. Even Professional Appraisers have to use guesswork, although an Appraisers guess itself is an important factor in determining a final price.

Mike Jr has presented his Father's car in as good a place as any to obtain opinions of value, and has set his price based on his feedback. If he gets that price in short order, he's liable to think he asked too little, but ultimately, when both buyer and seller shake hands on a deal, that price is exactly what the car is worth to those two gentlemen at that particular moment.

I placed the value at... at least $40k. I believe $35k for the car is an extremely fair price. In this day, it's pretty much one of a kind. The vast majority in this condition got restored long ago. Dad truly enjoyed his original cars. It really paid off as he got older, as he didn't want to spend all of his time/energy with a bunch of detailing. He could simply pull it out of the garage, and enjoy it... while garnering more smiles/interest than the big dollar restored vehicles.

At this price, I figured a good caretaker from here would have snapped it up by now. I didn't really want to go to the effort of marketing the car, but the next step will likely be crafting an ad for Ebay, and see where that goes. Probably end up in Kuwait or something. lol

I'll let it soak for a little while longer to see if anyone from here is interested, and go from there.

Mike, I truly enjoy the history of your car and actually like it (the car) as it is much more than if it were restored.
I can understand your mixed feelings about selling it. Lord knows there's been more than a few that I've sold for one reason or another. Some I regret but at the particular time, well, some things have to be.

I wish you well and hope you get what you desire for this car. Unfortunately, your understandable passion for this car, in my humble opinion, won't translate to others at your level.
Still, all it takes is that one guy...

Hasn't this run it 's course? This should be in the for sale thread. Fellow wanted to know what it was worth & got his answer so move it. No one has gets this privilege. I have a few cars & parts that I need to sell ,wonder if I can post them here. I know I don't have to open the thread BUT what is fair is fair for all.

We all agree in principle, but we have enjoyed a possible last look at a truly amazing original car. As you are now fully aware of the gist of this thread, I suggest that you don't open it again just to complain about it.

Go away! This has been a great thread. It has been helpful to anyone trying to place a value on their car. Also an entertaining thread on an old treasure with great history. If you don't like it, you don't have to open it, just move on. This was not a car for sale yet.

What a great outcome! I am SO glad Mike Jr. used this forum to get the car to someone who could really appreciate it and not turn it into another belly button car with a sbc, turbo trans, 9" rear end. Thank you DavidJ!
The heir of one of my best friends has a 32 tudor with 27k original miles, EVERYTIME I see him I remind him the car needs to remain untouched and if he ever decides to sell it he has to call me first.

Best bet is to go on-line and see what other 34 phaeton cars have sold for.
"Kube" is correct. The market for these style cars is fading as demand wains.
