Default 6v Generator Swap

Have a 6v generator with mounted fan. Its suspect but have a 46 generator.
Will it fit with the swap of the front cover with mounting plate?
Both being 2 brush type.
thanks,

Have since checked and armature from 46 generator is not long enough. So will have to go with a correct style replacement armature for the 39 generator.

I have adapted the 36 fan to the 39 generator. Had to make an adaptor. It's
been on the car 35 years and at least 50,000 miles. I set it up with a dial
indicator. Here are two I did. These were six bladed industrial blades still working good. G.M.
