Why would you need to heat hot air?

I'm guessing the OP is asking about manifold style hot air heaters.

This was available for 1940 as well as a hot water heater. Wondering how much longer in production and configuration on other years there were.

I had one in my 47 coupe. It was most definitely factory installed.
