Model A air-conditioner

It's been a little over a hundred here and the humidity over 100% for days now. Missed a Model a tour today because I just couldn't take the heat. I never thought I would be thinking about putting some kind of air-conditioning in one of my A's but I believe I may do it. Been looking on u-tube at some of the diy things that are made out of coolers. Has anyone done this on FB yet and do they help any. Have an idea of using a cooler with some kind of small heat exchanger and a bilges pump circulating cold water threw the cooler with large blocks of ice in it. Of course I would need a 6-volt fan blowing behind the heat exchanger. Before I go and mess up my cooler and spend some time trying all of this can anyone out there shed some light on this subject.

In very arid regions with very low humidity, coolers can give some relief.

In humid areas, pulling your pants down and sitting bareassely on a block of ice might work; however, Mr. Ken Davis is the person to call for humid areas

I heard in the range of about $400.00, (more or less), in the Texas area.

Also, I heard that some commit a mortal sin, cut holes in the metal fire wall and risk Model A Hell for eternity.

And some follow Mr. Davis's recommendation of cutting the replaceable or repairable plywood floor board and have a better chance to go to Model A Heaven.

Maybe if one hangs a St. Christopher medal in his Model A, after cutting through the metal fire wall, he will only go to Purgatory ...... I did not read the recent Model A Judging Standards lately.

It's 98 today as I write this but fortunately the humidity is low. As I was restoring our 31 slant T/S in 2010 my wife ordered a Ken Davis A/C unit. Easy to install, can be done in a day but I took two. This included converting to 12 Volts.
This was the best thing we could have done to make touring more comfortable!

I had a chance to ride with Ken Davis in one of his air conditioned A's. It was really impressive how quickly it cooled the car down and we just drove around the block. He's a great guy to work with. I'll be getting one of his systems when I can afford it.

The Ken Davis unit is great. It even works in Alaska. I have the unit that will provide heat as well as cooling in my pickup. Ken has done all the engineering and fabrication that makes installing in a Model A a breeze.

FWIW:

1. One simple method used by many intelligent Senior experienced Model A owners, who are researching "Model A" products, (like, the somewhat more expensive Model A air-conditioners), is to call a few "Model A" businesses ..... like Model A parts salespersons ...... who receive from Model A concerned Seniors like us, more than 500 Model A bitching phone calls and Model A praising phone calls a week.

2. Nobody ..... and I mean nobody ....... praises and/or bitches more about Model A parts and Model A products more than us Senior Model A owners.

3. For an earful, and a unique education, just trying calling Bert's, Bratton's, Synder's etc., to ask what are the Pro and/or Con reports heard most often from us Model A Seniors on today's Model A air-conditioner suppliers .

4. I already did over the years ..... but, in my humble opinion, it is always best to hear responses one-on-one ....... in person!

Jimmy Taylor in New Braunfels Texas has installed many of Ken Davis air conditioners. He has a personal twist on his installation that makes it a wonderful addition. I would recommend speaking to him if you are in the market.

Seriously? So it's OK to butcher the frame for a transmission swap, or cut the driveline torquetube for an overdrive, weld mounts for hydraulic brake master cylinders, cut holes for seat belts, or do many other mods to a Model-A yet it is now considered a "mortal sin" to drill two 1" holes in the firewall for A/C hoses??

BTW, while the RG&JS does not specifically address air conditioners nor their installation, the larger of the two national clubs do not take issue with A/C installed in their Restorers Class judging.
