Re: LZ valve springs
Red's Headers has them and I think Mac VanPelt does too.

Re: LZ valve springs
Mine came from Red's Headers, when Red owned the company.

Re: LZ valve springs
I got mine from Jim at Red's. He said they would give about 80# on a ford valve. I used them on Chevy valves and had to add a .060" shim and sometimes another .010" to get around 50# installed.

Re: LZ valve springs
Has any of you used the valve keepers that reduce spring height , I have a set somewhere, that I picked up from silver seal , a few years ago, havn't had a chance to try them , I got the .060 and .030 sizes, Just wodering how they hold up ,looks like a way not to use so many shims for chev. valves.

Re: LZ valve springs
LZ = Lincoln Zephyr The LZ springs are a HD type of spring that were used in the Lincoln Zephyr V12's. During the 50's it was a very common practice to use the LZ springs in the Ford/Merc flat-heads that had cams that were a little on the radical side. The LZ springs eliminated and/or minimized valve float.
The 59AB engine in my '36 has a Weber F-1 cam with LZ springs and Johnson adjustable lifters.

Re: LZ valve springs
While we're on the subject, does anybody have any information on the difference between LZ's and Isky 185G's? The latter are readily available and always seemed to work fine for me.

Re: LZ valve springs
Depending on who makes the Isky spring, the pressures are too hi for a street engine. I use 50 lbs with the L-100 and have no trouble turning 5K with that pressure. However for the race engine I'd like 60 lbs and the LZ springs will do that. with one shim on the chevy valve.. Don't take this as fact, just measure it. Someone here said the LZ springs were 80 lbs, I think that was the Isky springs. Why ware out a cam getting groceries.
