Default Early 28 brake question.

How long was the block off plate used on the left sill after the parking brake handle was moved to the center of the car?

I think I have a cowl for my 28 roadster that has the block off plate riveted on with one rivet. If I remember correctly is is bent to fit the subrail extension. I am pretty sure the plate should have a second rivet to hold it place better, but not 100% sure. Maybe tomorrow I can look at it in the top of my barn to check it out and add to this post.

My 28 Special Coupe also had the block off plate screwed to the sub-rail but just two screws.

My Oct. 28 tudor has a block off plate where the left hand em brake handle originally was located.

Hmm. So the block off plate does little to date the car. Engine number is gone, which wouldn't be definitive any way, and no gas tank date stamp. Squeeze grip parking brake, drum tail light, red wheel, fluted lenses. I'm going to call it a mid '28. Thanks for the info, and anybody that can find it in the Standards, kindly let me know, 'cause I couldn't.

Greg: So you are wanting to date your car, but the engine and gas tank numbers are not there. That is a dilemma, but an interesting dilemma. So we must work backwards by dating components. I'm looking at the JS, under instruments & Controls, area 6. Gas gauge... on page 6-5 and 6-6, it talks about the black gas gauge indicator plate that you see behind the lens. From the beginning through May 28, you would see a vertical oval with flat lens. From Mid 28 thru mid 29, you would see a horizontal oval with a curved magnifying lens. It is not likely that your gas gauge was ever swapped out, so this may at least put your car either before or after May of 1928.
