I have a 1932 DeSoto that came with the Goodyear 700x15 airwheel on Detroit wooden spoke wheels. On the old tire the pressure was stated to be in the 13 pound range.
I have toured over 1000 miles with new Firestone 700x15 tires @ 28 lbs and have never had a problem.

Re : The "double" tubes. Remember the the lyrics of "Hot Rod Lincoln"?

"I've got safety tubes and I'm not scared
The brakes are good, and the tires are fair"

Is this what he's talking about?

years ago i worked in a gas station we fixed flats the chrysler cars had those tubes .what happened was they would get a leak in the outer tube & not know it. then they would get a flat on the inner tub may be months later when you tried to fix the flat the tube was stuck to the tire it took 4 men & a boy to get that tube out & when you did you could not repair it

I remember back when I was in the Army we had the tube patch kits with the similar tool above. The kit came with these discs the size of the patch. After clamping it all together you would light the compound in the disc and it would burn for awhile essentially “hot” vulcanizing the repair.

In the 1940's and 1950's the General Jumbo 9.00 x 13 inch wheels and tires were used on beach buggies driving on the soft stand of the ocean beaches, particularly for dedicated surf casting fishermen on Cape Cod.. I have sold the set of wheels I used to have but I still have a brand new inner tube in a cardboard box. The last time I checked the tube it still look good, no cracks visible.

When I was a kid I had one of those tire patch things. You would light it on fire and melt the patch to the tube. Smelt like sulfer

My Dad had a 1953 Caddy. It had Goodyear ' Double Eagle ' Tires. The tubes were like the ones above. The guys at the filling station hated it when he need a tube repaired or changed. They were supposed to be a safety feature. All this took place 57 years ago so I hope my memory serves!

Default General Jumbo's

The avatar shows my car with 15 in. General Jumbo's 9 spoke. There were many more 14 in. Jumbo's with 8 spoke. They also made 16 in. with 9, 10, and 11 spoke. You had quite a pick.
