I have a 2 tooth steering assembly that my dad did all the rebuilt work too years ago and I just put it together. However, I can't torque all the housing nuts tight or the steering binds up and is VERY tight.
No I'm not tightening the adjustment nut, I've tried to loosen it up to see if it'll fix the issue but no luck. It functions and doesn't bind if all the housing nuts are slightly loose, and I've looked at the service bulletin page and followed the procedure but I can't get a really good adjustment on it and it leaks 600W like a sieve..

Any ideas?
This is my first time assembling a steering box so I'm not sure if there's anything I'm missing or should do

PennRite steering box lube will solve the leakage problem. I can't help you with the box though.

Box needs to be "set up" according to directions shown online.

Check out http://modelabasics.com/twoTooth.pdf. Pick it up at step 3 as Dad probably already went over the initial.

"Centralizing tooth contact" is where most go awry. This is addressed.

Sounds like the gasket between the two housings might not be seated properly in the groove and/or in the adjustment procedure it might have gotten dislodged and twisted. This will do exactly what you are saying …….. can't tighten all the bolts without total binding.

Just a guess because this exact thing happened last week with a box I was rebuilding.

This just happened to me yesterday. If you turned that big eccentric cam, that would do it. Rotate it to give max room and it should go together OK. After adjustment, it always tightens up a bit as you tighten the four nuts. Put a little windage into your adjustment. The other times it will tighten up is as the car is put on it's wheels. I always found that you have to adjust it with the weight on the wheels. Not easy to get right.
