Timing gear how much moving is OK ?
Hi,
yesterday, for the first time I removed the timing gear cover, because I had a knocking when the engine is hot. Now I have seen, I can move the timing gear back and forth about 8 mm(0.3 inch). Question: is this OK ? Thanks for help Willi |

Re: Timing gear how much moving is OK ?
Thats what the damper/spring plunger is for. New parts are available or you can shim the spring if its too weak. The main reason for the knock is too much clearance between the gear teeth. That clearance should be .004-.006". .010" will cause a knock.

Thanks for this additional information.
Yes, I know, this damper with the spring has to hold the timing gear in place. But: Is it OK to have so much movement ? Thanks Willi |
