The parts them selves in a form other than a car has now ownership value ..all states are different but you need a "car" to title whether bonded, rebuilt new construction, you buy a title or find numbers to title ( bonded ) some states only require a bill of sale depending on cars age and some states dont even issue a title ....so check your states requirements and go from there ...but in my state of Iowa you need a completed vehicle not just a pile of parts ..... |

It might be best just to go straight to the Texas DMV and ask them. They would know that you were not trying to pull a fast one or trying to license a stolen vehicle.

Re: Transferring Parts Ownership 1930 Model A
Simple enough. Contacted DMV here in Texas down in Austin. Did what is in essence a Bill of Sale with a notary. At that point I have possession of the original receipts where my dad bought them, then transfer of ownership to me. Once the car is complete, then I do the hoopla where someone from DPS comes out and inspects it for road worthiness. Those receipts and Bill of Sale will be part of the titling paperwork along with insurance and whatnot. New VIN is issued and car is registered. Voila. Anyways, thank you much for all the help.

Re: Transferring Parts Ownership 1930 Model A
OL yeller ...I would just get the car and build it then ...check with dmv they might want you to do a pencil rub over ID # on frame and body and have a pic of it too..document anything you can ..when done will have to be checked over by hw patrol and then issued a number...A call to the dot should help (if you get someone that doesn't mind doing their job ) but be patient some employees may have never had this question posed to them before ..Ive dealt with mine some like I said document everything even if its receipts for parts....good luck keep us posted this comes up now and then

Re: Transferring Parts Ownership 1930 Model A
I live in Texas and have been through this. Take the receipts for the various parts as well as photo's and apply for a rebuilder's title. The engine number will be the title (VIN) numvber. I told them that all the little parts were purchased at swaps etc. It was apparent that the car was built from parts. While this was years back I didn't have a problem getting a title.
