I think both are correct but I don't know the dates they were used. Do you have the 49-51 Ford book from the V8 Club?

My understanding is the the speedo with the white pointer along with the white gauge pointers were early '51. The late '51s have the clear needle with the red ring and red gauge pointers. Personally, I like the early set-up the best. They are a LOT easier to read with a quick glance.

I have a late production '51 Deluxe with a white speedo pointer, no ring, but red gage needles.

The early 51 Fords had white gauge needles and red circle speedo pointer.
later models used red gauge needles and straight speedo needles. there where also some with red gauges and red circle pointer. Ford used speedometers from Stewart Warner-Kelsey Hayes and one other brand I can't recall the name. I like the white gauges because I can see them better. the circle pointer is the more popular one.

When I was a kid in the 50's, one of the things I remembered about my uncle's '51 was the circle on the speedometer needle. I was disappointed when I bought my '51 that it didn't have one.

The late (Aug.) 51 I had had a straight needle with no circle and it didn't have the full horn ring as the early ones with the full ring blocked the view of the speedometer. Ford made the change in the late 51s.

Also check if they are the same maufacturer. I have a Stewart- Warner made speedo in my 51 (early circle pointer) and a spare King-Seely made later speedo. Not sure if these two speedos use the same parts.
