Now you know why they have the adjustable aftermarket arms on there. Those only cost $39.99 while the correct repro CV, convertible arms cost $97.99.
If you get the 6-1/4" long repro's with bayonet arm (# B5A17526-DPR) and pay the big bucks, they'll fit on your pivot fittings but then you may need to pay more to get wiper blade assemblies to fit the bayonet type arms.
I don't like those adjustable aftermarket types, because if your vacuum wiper motor is not fully returned to zero, the pivots are not all the way down and you will suck a small amount of vacuum all the time.
To install the correct wiper arms, remove old wiper arms first, then start engine, run the wipers thru one cycle and shut off with engine running and no wiper arms, so that the pivots will return to zero vacuum position. Then install wiper blades on wiper arms and press wiper arms onto the pivots. If you get an arm one notch off, you can remove and re-install again till you get both to match.

The reason being is there were two roof heights in 55/56 depending on body style. My cataloging is hidden so I can't give you details right now.

It may the transmission and pivot assy is different for either model (hi-roof / low-roof) so as to prevent what you are experiencing. I can't get to my MPC to verify it.

Or you have the wrong arm assy. Any Casting I.D. on the arm assy?

Did you buy the ones with bigger female end from mac's? If so and return them for the correct arms listed on the same page (and spend $100)

There are TWO lengths because all sedan, wagon and Victoria 2-dr hardtop models had the same tall windshield. The convertible and Crown Vic had a lower top so the length of WW arms is shorter for them. But there were also different lengths of wiper blades available. That's why there are so many lengths.
ALSO, there are different style arms to fit mating blades. You can get them in either bayonet style or wrist-type arms.

When the wiper system was converted to electric, did they supply the actuator arms (under the dash)? If so, those may have had smaller pivot male ends and you will have to match that size.
