I know I have read threads on here where you can buy hoses that work.
You could buy an aluminum thermostat housing for a 49-53 and then have a piece of alum with the correct OD welded to it. It would be very easy to do. I have a 49-53 aluminum housing if you decide to do that.

A 1" section of 1 1/2" hose as a bushing to slip the 1 3/4" hose over works for me.

See if Speedway has them at a more reasonable price.

I've never heard of switching to 1-3/4". What's the advantage?

This poster seems to know exactly what he wants. I would suggest that he just step up and pay the price like most "Gold-Chainers" do.

Earlier radiators are made for 1-3/4" hose and later engines have 1-1/4" necks.

Using a piece of 1-1/4" hose as a bushing works; usually not real noticeable; but if appearance is important, best to step up and buy the parts.

Drake now has them back in stock but they were out of stock when I needed them for the 8ba in my 39 p/u so I ordered them from Just32/Model Engineering. Better price and cheaper shipping. JMO

If you have a '49 engine it's an 8ba/8rt and the thermostat housings that Drake or Just 32 are what you need for 1 3/4" upper radiator hoses.
