Oil Pump tip
I know most of you do this but some do not so this is for them !!! When replacing the oil pan hold the pump in place by a suitable cable tie passed through the two adjacent pan bolt holes and around the back of the pump . When the pan is nearly home cut the tie and pull it clear . Some people use a bolt in the little plug hole this is not good as it is tapered and the straight bolt damages the tapered threads in the block . If you do not have a tie long enough use two as the lock end of the tie will not pass through the holes so put a short one through and use the lock end of another tie to secure it.

Re: Oil Pump tip
There are a couple versions of an oil pump retainer that makes use of the tapered threads. I have both of these.

Re: Oil Pump tip
In a pinch, run a 1/8" NPT die, all the way down on a 3/8" SAE bolt & it will screw in with YO' FINGERS! (CHEEP TOO!)
