They can be turned---but most places that can turn drums won't be able to do the rears because a small spindle is needed, if the place can turn the old VW drums, or has a small spindle adapter, or best case has a old Barrett/JimBeam drum lathe with the adapter that fits in the wheel bearing ---expect an xtra charge for setup

they don't cut the same as iron drums---and there isn't a lot to work with, have you measured what you have

I recently worked on a car ---was told "the brakes were just rebuilt", the drums had been turned, they were over .135 oversized, the metal part of the drum the shoes ride on was only .020 thick

The service bulletins say to never turn the model A, or AA drums

The original drums are made by rolling the steel into the drum shape and this leaves a hard surface, which Ford didn't want cut away. Also, as you cut away the metal, the brake drums will heat and expand quicker, which leads to quicker brake fade. I wouldn't spend money having them turned, but instead buy a mint original drum, or buy a new cast iron drum.

Kurt mentioned a drum that was only .020" thick. That must have been a nightmare for brake fade. I worked on a guy's Mustang in the 70's and when I remove the front caliper, the disc rotor fell onto the floor in 3 pieces. Sure glade he never came up behind me at a stop light.

A brake lathe with a grinding attachment will do a dandy job.
