I'd see if Tom would rebuild it for you.
I own an alternator shop and I run a generator. Last one wire 12V I built was about $75.00 out the door. That was with an AC stator fired regulator.

Do a search .............there are several GREAT threads on this topic. Tom Wesenberg seems to be the generator GURU and will offer his services for a nominal fee to rebuild the genny.
Russ Evans offers his 6 volt alternator inside an original genny housing for quite a bit more.

A generator will work well in your model A. They have for 85 years now. They can be rebuilt very economically. Alternators look out of place on an A, because they are.

The antique car hobby is about restoring, operating and maintaining the cars of our history.

Streetrods on the other hand are about taking a car from the past and making it better. More modern, easier to operate, more comfortable more reliable. Losing its original character.

A bone stock Model A will do everthing it is supposed to. Drive day and night local and on tours.

If you want a street rod an alternator is as good a place to start as any I guess, me I will take a real Model A.

I have seen a 12 volt Generator istalled on an A. Just another option.

When it comes to Gen. vs, Alt. I can't help but think, fat vs skinny girlfriend.

The engine and tranny are also 80 year old technology, so they must also go, and we should all install a Chevy 350 with a Chevy 350 automatic. Wait......the rear end is also 80 years old, so we must find a modern rear end. And those darn brakes are 80 years old, and must be replaced with disc brakes. All these changes should make the tattooed circus woman proud.

My original powerhouse generator and headlamps work great and light the road very well. My ammeter does NOT go to discharge with the lights on and the engine at idle. I use my EVR inside the generator, otherwise everything is stock original, and works fine.

The tapered end of the shaft is longer on the early style long generators, then about March 1930 Ford went to the shorter taper and hub on the pulley, and also dropped the rear bearing and went to a bushing. These generators work fine also, and start charging the battery at 500 engine RPM, which is a good idle speed.

You are new here on the barn, I tell you that all of the most knowledgeable and experienced guys here have advised to stay with the genny. It’s your car but their opinion isn't just because its original. There are other reasons why you don't start changing things because then you have to re-engineer everything. BTW a 35 A alt isn’t good on a 30 A gauge.
On a lighter note, the fat chicks usually are the ones sporting tats and piercings...
