What type of adjustable tappets are most people using?. The self locking or the double nut type.

It depends on what cam grind you are using.
The large face lifters (single lock) will generally work with any grind.
The small face ones will only work with cams designed for a 1 inch dia. lifter.
Special dimension lifters can be had for any application such as oversize lifter bores and they will always have the double lock.
