Question 28/29 versus 30/31

Looked at a coupe today that was listed as a 29. But when I looked it had the smooth cowls of the 30/31. This is what I think I know.

Cowls are different
Seats are different 30/31 have a round handle in front to adjust

Are there any major differences or minor That I might look for ??

bumpers is the first tip off- then tire size.

I always leaned toward 28-29 cars, because they look more like a T. As of late, I am enjoying the looks of the 30-31s better and they also tend to have better resale
in certain body styles. hot rodders generally migrate towards 30-31.
my opinion.

Most 28-29 4 door sedan had smooth cowls.

'28-'31 Fordor bodies were all basically the same beside being a Briggs or a Murrey.

I like the styling of all Model A's & AA's, but judging by the number of service bulletins and service letters from the branches, the Model A's design reached its pinnacle in 1930 & 1931 vehicles. Thus 1928 & '29 Model A's & AA's are mechanically not as good. My preference is for 1931 A's.

By the way, I notice that on club events, most of the cars participating are 1930 & 31 A's even though the highest number built per year occurred in 1929. Okay, I've thrown the gauntlet, so blast away!

Gas and radiator caps are the easiest way to tell.

28-29 both are threaded on the OD of the neck
30-31 both are twist and lock style caps.

To me, it is just a matter of preference. Some like the "Antique" styling of the 28-29's and others like the more "Modern" styling of the '30-'31's. All are good cars. A lot of the changes thru the years dealt with cost of manufacturer and not really making the car better. All the years have a place in the hobby.

My opinion,

The cost cutting in 1930 along with the higher use of stamped steel parts as opposed to forgings used on the car through '29 makes the 28/29 superior in my opinion. The coupe pillar? its a matter of taste, but I prefer it over the smoother line.
