Re: Side Curtain fasteners
I would suggesr you use brass like the originals, stainless is too hard; this way you can plate either nickel or chrome. Just my opinion !!!!

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
I agree, brass is the way to go. Also nickel plated as original. I also need a set of fasteners for my 28 Phaeton.

I like original. I will need a set for my RPU eventually. Not there yet. Would be willing to buy when available.

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
Something i heard or i was told that Al Lapore was working with Bill Sturm on this[ Bill was running out of his[ n.o.s. pieces] . I was lucky to have them put on my car at that time. Anyway i don't know if JR. Lapore is still on track making them or they are made yet???? As i use to talk to Al at night about projects [clips on the Deluxe Phaeton] for the top boot ..he had asked the same question??? Stainless Steel , BRASS with Nickel or Chrome??? He was shooting for Stainless Steel... I told Al that early cars had brass/nickel plated and as Marco stated Chrome plated started somewhere in Mid 1930. So my point is Stainless serves people who take Chrome plate only.. Brass is easier on the DIES and you can sell them to early cars as well as later cars.. You cover the whole market... And save money on the DIE'S. So it was brass parts and i got my nickel plated and people who had later cars got theirs Chrome... So,,, all is well. I would shoot for brass only and have the customer plate his own... I paid for a better plating job then others would.

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
A friend who had been in touch with Lebaron Bonney within the last two weeks got the fastners he needed for his sidecurtains. He said they told him they had only recently got them back in stock and were working to overcome a 3 year back-log of orders for them..

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
Hi everybody,
This question goes to both owners of original side curtains but also after market side curtains. Please, could you make close-up pictures of the different fasteners used on the curtains? It'd be great if you take photos of both sides! thanks |

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
Original has my vote... I sometimes think we over restore and that kinda kills the true beauty of the overall....I also like the patina
I have trouble with the body sockets pulling out of the holes in the body....I wonder if I need to put some sort of inter ring on them... seems like the reproductions are slightly smaller or the body holes are oversize...I have had several just pull out..not good. Joel |

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
Joel, try tapping the center of the body socket with a 1/4" wood dowel, this should allow the back to expand and create a snug fit

Re: Side Curtain fasteners
Hi
Does anyone knows where I could get the Side Curtain fastener who plugs well? I bought these in Le Baron Bonney a couple years ago when I restored my 29 Phaeton and Unfortunately they did not work, all of them unplugs alone. In adition they are too much expensive. Victor |
